23 year old woman charged with intoxication manslaughter after fatal crash

Investigators have arrested a 23-year-old McAllen woman after a fatal car crash.
At about 2:45 a.m. Sunday, the McAllen Police Department dispatched officers to the 1400 block of West Business 83 to investigate an auto-pedestrian collision.
Officers determined a motorist struck a 61-year-old man and left the scene, according to a news release from the McAllen Police Department. Emergency medical workers transported him to a nearby hospital, where the man died.
Officers arrested Elena Cristal Cavazos, 23, of McAllen. She's charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony, and accident involving injury or death, a second-degree felony.
"I think the PD just jumped to conclusions," said attorney Ricardo "Rick" Salinas, who represents Cavazos. "I think there's more to this than meets the eye."
Cavazos went downtown but doesn't drink alcohol, Salinas said, adding that he suspects someone may have slipped her something.
"She's got no history at all. Zero," Salinas said. "And there's real questionable facts about what happened that night."
Salinas acknowledged Cavazos left the scene of the collision, but said "fleeing from something and fleeing the scene are two different things."
"You know what they say: 'Bad things happen to good people,'" Salinas said. "And she's one of them."
